  • This, All This was the first “real” essay I ever wrote. It started as a blog post about a day out hunting with my dad and became an article when my uncle suggested sending it to a friend he had at Backcountry. I couldn’t believe it was real when I first held it. You can buy the issue here.

  • I wrote Hunter for the first ever graduate-level class I took. I owe a lot to that class—I learned so much, and it showed me the place that I really belonged (with my writing community). On the suggestion of my professor, I submitted it to Riverteeth and got the acceptance when I was in Safeway (I cried!). You can read it here.

  • I started watching Bojack Horseman with an ex—it wasn’t my favorite show, but I felt compelled to watch (a little like a trainwreck). It was only after I’d been invited to contribute to this zine (now award-winning!) that I realized one character in particular had had a huge impact on me. You can read about my journey with Princess Carolyn in Is It Just Me, or Are We Nailing This?

  • 2019 was not an easy year for me—I was struggling with some significant anxiety and an insistent low-grade depression, while also becoming deeply fascinated by herons. You can read my essay about it in Herons on Entropy.

  • A flash nonfiction piece I wrote about a stained glass woman I used to see on my commute to work when I was in my mid-twenties. Read it on You Might Need to Hear This.
